Ephs earn huge win at Golfweek October Classic in Florida

The team earned its third win in five tournaments during an impressive fall season.

DESTIN, Fla. - The Williams College women's golf team continued its fantastic fall with a dominant third round en route to a 21-stroke victory at the Golfweek October Classic at the Sandestin Resort & Club in Destin, Fla.

The three-day tournament featured strong competition from around the country, and the Ephs took control during Tuesday's final round, shooting 10-under-par and winning by a large margin over second-placed Randolph-Macon, who had the second-best day three score at 1-over-par.

Williams ended with a +8 score for the tournament; Randolph-Macon was +29, and Hamilton was third at +33.

"This was such a great way to close out the fall season!" said Head Coach Tomas Adalsteinsson. "The team's performance kept getting stronger as their confidence and comfort with the course grew.

"Like any good round, we left a few birdies out there and feel we could have gone even lower. Coming off a record-breaking weekend, it was rewarding to see everyone contribute in a big way and finish the fall with another W!"

Natalie Cheong led the Ephs, moving up 10 spots on Tuesday to finish tied for second overall at 1-over, one stroke behind the tournament winner, Erin Donovan from Piedmont University.

Zoe Wynn was second on the team and fourth overall at 2-over, and Euna Lee was tied for seventh overall at +4. Michelle Ding and Petra Yee also posted excellent scores for the Ephs.

In Sunday's first round, the Ephs shot 12-over-par, and were tied for the tournament lead with Grinnell College. The team maintained the excellent performance, shooting +6 on Monday, staying in a first place tie, but now with Hamilton College.

Tuesday was the day that Williams pulled away from the competition. Of the four Ephs whose Tuesday scores counted, none were over par; Cheong and Wynn were both 4-under-par, Ding was 2-under, and Lee was even par.

The Ephs' 10-under on Tuesday was the only team score under par, and led to a huge margin of victory over a field that featured 24 teams, including eight that were at last year's Division III National Championship tournament.

Williams finishes its fall season with strong results in all five of its tournaments, having won three, and one second-place and one third-place performance. The team looks forward to a spring season that will feature the NESCAC Championship on home turf, being hosted at Taconic Golf Club from May 1-3, 2026.
