Rome, NY -- Williams Women's Golf currently sits in second place after round one of the Hamilton Invitational. After shooting 312 (+24) the Ephs sit 4 strokes behind Wellesley College. Rome Country Club provided a test for these golfers with its narrow fairways and numerous hazards.
Sophomore Natalie Cheong overcame the course's difficulties leading the team with a 75 (+3), highlighted by 2 birdies.
Cheong comments "Long day out there with some tricky holes. Definitely had to stay patient and play smart on each hole. Greens were fast and it was slightly windy out there. But glad to have stayed in it and keep fighting after a rough start. Kept on reminding myself to trust my thought process and to take it one shot at a time. Excited to see how we can improve for tomorrow and get it back!"
Junior Euna Lee followed closely behind with a 77 (+5), also highlighted by two birdies. Senior Captain Gio Kim fired a 78 (+6), Junior Victoria Kim shot 81 (+9), and first year Michelle Ding shot 82 (+10). Rounding out the lineup was Sophomore Maryanne Grace with a 86 (+14).
Assistant Coach Bill Kangas notes, "The team worked hard today, playing a challenging golf course (Rome CC) for the first time. We are excited to have another opportunity tomorrow, feeling better prepared to attack the green and make a few more putts."
