Jekyll Island, GA --Â The Women's Golf team left with some hardware after the final round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate, hosted by Oglethorpe College. Intense wind gusts throughout the entire day created another set of difficult conditions for the tournament, but the Ephs persevered, finishing second with a final round score of 317, +29. Wellesley College won the event by 6 shots, shooting a final round team score of 312, +24, marking a successful weekend for the Northeast schools down south. On the individual side, it was first-year
Emma Abramson who pushed through to victory, marking her first collegiate win. Abramson shot the lowest round of the field for the day with a 72, E, overcoming a two-shot deficit from the day prior to claim the individual title.Â
Abramson led the team with three incredible birdies on her back nine, one of which came on her final hole of the tournament after sinking a curling 20 footer. Next was junior Gio Kim with an 80, +8, carding two back-to-back birdies on the front nine. First-years Natalie Cheong and Maryanne Grace followed with an 82, +10, and an 83, +11, respectively. Rounding out the team was sophomore Euna Lee with an 87, +15. On the individual side, sophomore Victoria Kim shot a steady 77, +5, birding her opening hole of the day. Seniors Tianyi Zhuang and Aishvarya Bedi followed with a 79, +7 and an 84, +12, respectively. Bedi rounded out her tournament with a birdie on the tough par-4 9th.Â
Abramson commented, "I really enjoyed this spring break trip bonding with the team on and off the course. Coming off from swinging indoors for several months it was great to hit outside again and see the results from hard work. I was proud of how I was able to grind it out in the windy conditions and finish strong with a few birdies coming down the stretch. I'm excited for what we can accomplish this spring after a solid start to our spring season!"
Eph head Coach Tomas Adalsteinsson added, "This was a great spring break trip for us. Focused practices and good tournament experience. I'm very proud of the way the team battled today in the windy conditions, and securing a second place finish. Also happy for Emma earning her first collegiate win. There's a lot we will take away from this trip, and we'll be excited to return to tournament play in the northeast in couple of weeks."
The Ephs will next play at the Cortland Invitational on April 13th to 14th.Â
