BRUNSWICK, ME -- The Williams Women's Golf team kept the momentum rolling from round one into round two where they fired a 293 (+1), expanding their lead to 19 strokes over Wellesley. The team's 36 hole total of 2 under set a new program record for the lowest two day tournament under par. Summer weather and great golf made for a memorable New England weekend.
Maryanne Grace '27 captured her first individual collegiate win after shooting 70-71 (-5). Grace's confidence with the putter and tight approach shots were her keys to success.
Grace commented, "It was amazing to get both a team win and my first individual win! I had 9 birdies this weekend, which definitely helped my confidence on the course. I think the team is feeling good and excited for the rest of the season!"
Following just one shot behind Grace and earning runner-up honors was Natalie Cheong '27 who shot 68-74 (-4). Cheong just yesterday set the course record with her 68 (-5).
Euna Lee '26 and
Michelle Ding '28 both shot even par 73s. Lee's fifth place finish was highlighted by an eagle and two birdies in round two.
Emma Abramson '27 bounced back after day one with a 76 (+3), which included four birdies. Captain
Gio Kim '25 rounded out the lineup with a 78 (+5).
Ding reflected on her collegiate debut, "The first day was definitely scary, but after playing not my best golf, coach Kangas came to watch me play and that helped relax my nerves. He did the same the second round and it helped me play amazing the second day. The team did amazing and were so supportive and happy for me when I finished my first collegiate event. Lots of hugs and waves across fairways was one of the best parts. The team has made the transition from high school so smooth and I can't wait to grow more with them."
Assistant Coach Bill Kangas remarked, "I'm very proud of our team. The entire team worked very hard in preparation for this opening invitational, culminating with a school record under par (-2) weekend to start the fall season. Congrats to Maryanne for another outstanding golf round and to Natalie for her performance. As we reflect on the weekend, the team understands we have a lot to work on as we get ready for another golf challenge next weekend in Middlebury."
