NEW HARTFORD, NY -- The Williams Women's Golf team came out on top after day one of the three-day NESCAC Championship, hosted by Hamilton. The team battled through the tough Yahnundasis Golf Club on the blue sky day. After shooting 306 (+14) the Ephs sit in first, 8 strokes ahead of Hamilton. The Ephs were led by junior Euna Lee who carded 4 birdies for an impressive 71 (-2).
Lee commented, "Today was an exciting start for NESCACs, especially after experiencing all the weathers — rain, shine, and wind. Most of us never played here, but everyone battled through! I am looking forward to more golf and making memories with the team."
Following the 71, was first year Michelle Ding who carded 2 birdies leading to a strong 76 (+3). Closely behind was sophomore Natalie Cheong who had three birdies including one on the 18th to shoot 78 (+5). Senior captain Gio Kim carded two birdies to shoot 81 (+8). Rounding out the lineup was sophomore Maryanne Grace who finished with an 88 (+15).
Eph head coach Tomas Adalsteinsson notes, "It was a solid first round for us. Most of our players were playing the course for the first time, and many of the holes are pretty tricky with some blind shots. We learned a lot from this first round. The team did a good job staying disciplined with their game plan, and it helped save pars and make a few birdies. Good energy all around and we're excited for round two tomorrow!"
