WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - It is time for some downhill skiing.
The Williams College Alpine skiing team starts its 2026 journey Friday and Saturday during the Colby Carnival at Sugarloaf Mountain in Carrabassett Valley, Maine.

"The foundation for the winter was laid during a rigorous and successful preseason dryland training block, focusing on strength, agility and team cohesion," said head coach
Amber McHugh. "That physical preparation transitioned seamlessly to the snow during a highly successful Thanksgiving camp in Colorado. Getting back on snow allowed the team to get its snow legs back. We even had the luxury of a few days of training on our home hill of Jiminy Peak."
The Ephs' roster features 13 returning student-athletes and six newcomers. The returners include captains
Peter Laino '26 and
Riley McHugh '26, along with
Simon Baron '28,
Evan Cook '27,
Taylor Dulaney '28,

Charlie Koenig '28,
Chloe Lathrop '27,
Mackenzie Leach '27,
Clementine Mannes '28,
Maddie Semet '26,
Eliza Sullivan '26 and
William Zurbay '28. During the 2025 season, Lathrop qualified for the NCAA Tournament and finished 26th overall.
The first years are

Magnolia Conacher,
Jack Hunter and
Jack Luxton. McHugh enters her fourth season at the helm of the program, while assistant coach
Whit Montgomery-Nassif is in his third year.
"We have six first-year student-athletes that have incorporated seamlessly into the team culture, bringing depth and energy to the program," said McHugh. "They have pushed our returners throughout the fall, and we expect several of them to challenge for scoring positions early in the carnival season."
After their season-opening carnival, the Ephs will take their talents to the St. Lawrence Carnival on Jan. 22-23 at Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, New York, and then will make their way to the Dartmouth Carnival on Jan. 30-31 at the Dartmouth Skiway in Lyme Center, New Hampshire. The UVM Carnival takes place on Feb. 6-7 at Stowe Mountain Resort in Stowe, Vermont, and then the unit returns home for the Williams Carnival on Feb. 13-14 at Jiminy Peak in Hanover, Massachusetts. The Middlebury Carnival occurs on Feb. 20-21 at Snow Bowl in Hancock, Vermont.
"The leadership from Peter and Riley has been instrumental in setting the tone this year," said McHugh. "Their ability to mentor our first years, while maintaining their own high standards of performance is exactly what we need to navigate the competitive Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) field."
