WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) announced its Eph of the Week awards this afternoon, one of which went to Sadie Wu, a first-year on the women's golf team who made her collegiate debut in style, the other going to Will Baker, a seasoned senior defender for the football squad.
Wu traveled with women's golf to Middlebury, Vermont, for the George Phinney Classic, playing as an individual, and ended up finishing tied atop the leaderboard at the conclusion of the two rounds with a 9-over 152. The native of East York, Ontario, sank two birdies in each of her two rounds, despite a steady rain throughout the second day of play. The last first-year to win a tournament for the Ephs was Wu's current teammate, senior co-captain Emma Abramson, who took medalist honors at the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate back on March 22-24, 2024.
A Massachusetts native from Cohasset, Baker was a key figure in Williams' defensive effort against visiting Bowdoin this past Saturday. The defensive tackle was a disruptive force up front, securing five tackles, four of which came behind the line of scrimmage for a total loss of 12 yards. His biggest play, however, came on the tackle that was beyond the line as he stripped the ball from a Polar Bear rusher, allowing classmate Holden Gering to recover the ball at the Bowdoin 45. That turnover set up the Ephs' second score of the day en route to a 17-7 triumph to open the season with a victory for the fourth straight year.
