WILLIAMSTOWN, MA- The
Williams College baseball team (18-9) extended their winning streak
to five games Tuesday afternoon with a 7-1 win over
Skidmore. The win comes three days after the
Ephs completed a three game conference sweep over Hamilton.
"Today's game had good pitching, good defense,
and some productive hitting," said head coach Bill
Barrale. "We came out and played well against a
good team who won their conference last year."
Sophomore Paul Burgdorf got the start and set
the pace for the Ephs, going six solid innings allowing only one
run on three hits, while striking out five.
Fellow sophomore Tom Coleman added two shutout innings and first
year Tommy Hester pitched a scoreless ninth.
On offense, the Ephs were led by NESCAC player
of the week, senior second baseman James
DiCosmo. The Eph co-captain followed up a week
where he batted .668 with a 3-4 performance that featured two runs
and a walk. Sophomore shortstop Robin Allemand
also had a big day at the plate, going 3-5 with three RBIs.
The Ephs did the majority of their damage in
the fifth inning, where they used some small ball to spark the
offense. In that frame, the Ephs received two
impressive bunts, one for a single by DiCosmo and the other a
sacrifice by sophomore catcher Chad Brown. This
set up a second and third, one out situation for senior Max Pinto,
who hit a two run double, and then later scored on Allemand's RBI
single.
The Ephs now have a short turn around as they
square off against Southern Vermont, on the road, tomorrow
afternoon (4:00 PM).
