MIDDLETOWN, CT- The
Williams College baseball team (21-10, 8-3) dropped a tough contest
to NESCAC rival Wesleyan Sunday afternoon, 4-1.
Prior to the loss the Ephs had won five straight conference games
and eight in a row overall.
"Today we ran into a good pitcher and were on
the losing end of a well played game," said head coach Bill
Barrale. "We had some hard hit outs and we
stranded a lot of base runners. When the ball
was hit to them, they made the plays."
The Cardinals got on the board early off of
Eph junior starter Ben Horowitz, scoring two runs in the first
inning. The Ephs were able to make it a 2-1 game
in the top of the fourth with an RBI double by sophomore shortstop
Robin Allemand, but the Cardinals added another run in the bottom
half of the inning to make it 3-1.
The Eph offense was held scoreless for the
rest of the afternoon, mainly by Cardinal starter Kit Tholen who
went 7 1/3 innings allowing one earned run and striking out four.
For the Ephs, Horowitz logged 5 1/3 innings
while allowing three earned runs on six hits.
Sophomore Tom Coleman pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing one earned
run, while junior Zach Stone picthed a scoreless inning of relief.
The Ephs now have four games remaining before
their season ending showdown against Amherst. The first game
in that stretch is a home game against MCLA tomorrow, April 28th,
starting at 4 PM.
