TROY, NY- The Williams
College baseball team (22-10) wasted no time in starting a new
winning streak after their season high eight gamer was stopped by
Wesleyan Sunday afternoon. On Tuesday, the Ephs
traveled to #19 RPI and came home with a 9-5 victory.
"It is great to play a nationally ranked team
and beat them on their own field," said head coach Bill
Barrale. "Anytime you can go on the road
mid-week against a tough team and win, it's is impressive."
The Ephs did an excellent job of capitalizing
on the opportunities that RPI presented to them.
The Red Hawks committed eight errors on the day and the Ephs made
them pay by scoring three runs in the second, two in the sixth, and
four in the seventh.
On offense, the Ephs were led by their
outfielders, senior Max Pinto, senior Kevin Flynn, and sophomore Al
Matthews, who combined to go 7-14 with four runs and three RBIs-
one of which was a homer off the bat of Flynn.
Sophomore Robin Allemand also had a big day at the plate going 2-5
with three runs and an RBI.
Getting the start and going seven strong
innings for the Ephs was sophomore Paul Burgdorf, who allowed three
runs (one earned) while striking out six. Junior
Zach Stone continued his strong season on the mound by pitching a
scoreless ninth.
The Ephs next see action this weekend with a
Saturday doubleheader at MIT and the season finale against Amherst
on Sunday.
