Ephs down Skidmore 15-6

Box Score

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY-  Coming off a tough NESCAC lost on Sunday to Wesleyan, the Williams College baseball team (21-8) responded with the bats Tuesday afternoon in a 15-6 win over Skidmore.  The game marked the first in a stretch of six games in six days for the Ephs, all culminating in Sunday's NESCAC showdown against Amherst.

The Ephs started strong right away by scoring six runs in the first two innings.  In the first, an RBI single by junior Al Mathews (2-6, two runs, three RBI), an RBI double by senior Taylor Mikell (2-6, one run, two RBI), and an RBI groundout by senior Martin Green helped give the Ephs a 4-0 lead.  In the second, the Ephs played small ball as junior Robin Allemand scored on a wild pitch and Mathews produced an RBI groundout to extend the lead to six.

Skidmore would get on the board in the third, as sophomore starter Wilson Barr gave up two earned runs on two hits.  Barr would get out of the inning, however, and would not allow another run, finishing with four strikeouts on the day for his third win of the season.

The Ephs would respond immediately, as Allemand's solo homerun and junior Chad Brown's (3-5, two runs, two RBI) RBI single brought the lead back to six runs at 8-2.

After two scoreless innings for both squads, Skidmore cut the lead to 8-4 with two runs (one earned) off of first year reliever Matt Berdoff.  The Ephs, however, squashed any hope of a Thoroughbred comeback, as Allemand's two run triple highlighted a seven run ninth inning.

Sophomore reliever Dan Marcet gave up two runs in the ninth on a two run double, but rebounded and struck out the side to close out the victory.

Rounding out the strong offensive numbers for the Ephs were sophomore James Allison (3-5, one run), and first years Stephen Maier (1-6, three runs), Cameron Susk (1-5, two runs, one RBI), and Ben Oliva (3-5, one run).

The Ephs return home tomorrow for a 4 PM game against RPI.  The Ephs finish up the regular season with home games against Springfield (4/30 4 PM) and MIT (5/2 12:00, 2:30), before facing off against Amherst at Wachonah Park on May 3rd with NESCAC tournament hosting rights on the line.
