PHOENIX, AZ.-- Junior Harry Marino threw six strong innings Monday and Cameron Susk went 3 for 4 as the Williams College baseball team topped Johns Hopkins, 12-9, for its first victory of the season.
Williams (1-1) is scheduled to play a doubleheader Tuesday with Nebraska Wesleyan starting at 5 p.m. EST.
On Monday, held down the Blue Jays to the tune of two runs over six innings.His teammates supported him wth a 17-hit attack.
The Ephs led 3-1 entering the bottom of the fifth, but struck for three runs. Susk started things with a one-out single and Andrew Bishop followed with a single and K.C. Murphy reached on an error that loaded the bases. Darren Hartwell drew a bases-loaded walk which forced in a run and Matt Kastner lined an RBI-single for a 5-1 lead. Taylor Mondshein finished the scoring with an RBI-single off his own.
The Blue Jays rallied for three runs in the top of the seventhto make it 6-5, but Williams answered with five in its half of the inning to make it a 11-5 game. Murphy led off the inning with a triple, one of three three-baggers in the frame. Hartwell followed with an RBI-single. Mondshein followed with another RBI-single. Chance Reuger came through with an RBI-triple and Ben Oliva then laced an RBI-triple.
Mondshein was 2 for 3 with two runs scored, Reuger was 2 for 3 with two RBI.
Marino went six-plus, and allowed six hits and walked four while striking out six. He was charged with three runs, all earned. Senior Tom Hester earned a save, retiring Chris Wilhelm on a fly to center field with the bases loaded in the topof the ninth.
