Ephs swept away by Augsburg, 13-10, 7-3

TUCSON, AZ -- It was a tough day on the diamond for the Williams College baseball team as the Ephs dropped a doubleheader to Augsburg, losing game one, 13-10 before dropping the nightcap, 7-3.

Williams is now 3-4 on the season. The Ephs are off Friday.

In game one, the Ephs had three leads but let them all slip away. A four-run fifth gave them a 7-4 lead. With one out David Webster doubled and Kirby Neuner walked. Beau Horan scored a run with a single before Taylor Mondshein's RBI-fielder's choice scored another run. Darren Hartwell singled home a third run before Matt Kastner's single preceded Marco Hernandez's two-run triple.

Augsburg answered back with two in its fourth, three in its fifth and four more in the sixth to take the game 13-10. Hartwell was 3 for 4 in the loss while Webster was 2 for 4 and Kastner 2 for 5.

Andrew Bishop went the first three, allowing seven hits and four runs, all earned. Lucas Casso hurled the sixth inning, allowing four earned runs on one hit and five walks. He was saddled with the loss.

In game two, Augsburg scored four in the first off Eph starter Alex Beschloss, who went three innings and allowed five hits and five runs, four earned, walking two and striking out none. Eddie Kelly pitched two scoreless innings of relief while Jacob Slater and Jimmy Ray allowed one run in one inning each.

The Ephs scored twice in the third to make it a 5-2 game. Kastner had an RBI-double and Hernandez ripped his second triple of the game. Hartwell led the attack, going 4 for 4 and finishing 7 for 8 on the day. Hernandez was 2 for 4 and Horan was 2 for 3.
