Celia Adams and Marit Hoyem Named First Team All-NESCAC; Hoyem Defensive Player of the Year

WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. – Juniors Celia Adams and Mart Hoyem have been named to the All-NESCAC Volleyball First Team in a vote by the conference coaches. Hoyem is a middle hitter and Adams is an outside hitter. Hoyem has started all 22 matches and has scored 325.5 points and recorded 224 kills, and she has blocked 91 shots. Adams has notched 254.5 points with 228 kills and she has 30 blocks.

"To have two honorees selected  First Team All-NESCAC is pretty incredible," stated Eph head coach Christi Kelsey. "The NESCAC had a lot of tremendous players this year which made for some of the best and strongest conference competition to date. While I know these are individual honors, it really does truly reflect our team and what we have valued this season. This 2022 squad has been completely committed to one another and the big picture of growing as a team each and every day. We wouldn't be able to have this kind of individual success without first having such great team support and commitment to each other as the foundation of all we have done and continue to do this season."

"Marit and Celia are very deserving of being recognized," added Kelsey. "They both, along with our entire team, put in a tremendous amount of work this past off season on the court and with our sports performance coaches. Their hard work has help them elevate their skills and also their overall level of play. They both have also grown tremendously in their court presence and have also added to our overall upper classmen leadership."

"Celia became a regular starter for us towards the end of last season and really picked up right where she left off to start this year. She has continued to work hard every day to improve and it has shown in how she has become one of the best and most consistent pin players in our conference. I think what is also great about Celia is that not only has she focused on her own personal growth but she has helped support our senior leadership in their vision of what we could become as a team. All of our upperclassmen have served as great role models for work ethic, competitive drive, and a true passion for volleyball which has really helped shape this team this year."

"Like Celia and our team, Marit really took advantage of this past off season to grow as a player," stated Kelsey. "She has consistently been one of our offensive leaders for the past two seasons and this year only built upon the impressive performance she turned in as a sophomore. For her to earn First Team honors speaks to her continued rise as a player and improvement from a year ago. Like Celia, Marit has also been awesome about completely investing in the team as becoming a part of our upperclassmen leadership as well."

"And what a honor as well to be named Defensive Player of the Year," Kelsey added. "Marit is one of the most dominating players in our conference across the front line. She has been a crucial part of helping our team to being ranked in the top 20 statistically in the country in blocks per set this year, a first for our program. It is also pretty cool that Marit is a threat for us as well behind the service line too and ranks among the top of the NESCAC in service aces per set. We are very proud of Marit and Celia, as well as our entire 2022 team and we're looking forward to the opportunity to compete again in the NCAA Tournament."
