Box Score Davenport, FL - After a quick lunch break, the Ephs were back at it for game two of the doubleheader, handing the ball to senior RHP
Will Jeffries. Jeffries gave the Ephs a strong start, throwing 4 scoreless innings while striking out 3. Able to locate his fastball and secondary pitches, Jeffries looks ready to dominate his senior campaign.
Along with a stellar performance on the defensive side of the ball, the Ephs offense bounced back. Coming out the gate firing, sophomore catcher
Henry Juan doinked a cue ball down the right field line for a double that gave the Ephs runners on second and third. A pass ball allowed them to score the first of many runs in this game.
The 5th offensive inning for the Ephs was where they shined the brightest. To start the inning, senior outfielder
Jon Singleton took a base on balls followed by a single from catcher
Cole Whitehouse. Sweet swinging
Matthew Brown lined a single to score both runners, boosting the score to 7-0. Then, with two outs, freshman shortstop
Dave Mosrie lasered a line drive over the left field fence for his first collegiate home run. "It's great to see [Dave] looking comfortable out there and have success at the plate," said freshman LHP
Michael Amendola. "I'm excited to watch him compete and be a leader on the offense this season."
The onslaught continued with the Ephs scoring 17 total runs highlighted by freshmen
Sasha Palma (2-2) and
Luca Lopetrone who both collected their first collegiate hits, Brown (4-4 with 4 RBI), Singleton (2-2, 3 RBI), and Driscoll (2-3, 2B, 2 RBI).
The Ephs bullpen would then shut down the Hobart offense, limiting them to only one run for the remaining innings. Southpaws Jake Martin and Jack Sandifer worked efficiently to close out the game and give Williams their first win of the season.
Head Coach
Bill Barrale was extremely impressed with the offense's relentless intensity despite having a large lead. He loved the way batters were able to work long counts and put the ball in play.
Barrale was especially ecstatic with the pitching staff's ability to consistently throw strikes while limiting free bases. He is glad that the staff was able to get their work in while keeping everyone rested up for the upcoming doubleheader.
Next, The Ephs will be taking on Fredonia State for a doubleheader starting at 9 AM tomorrow.
