Box Score Davenport, FL - The Williams College Ephs are back at it with their first 9 inning game of the season, taking on the Knox College Prairie Fire for the third day of their Florida trip. The Ephs would win the game 11-6, rallying behind their relentless offense and timely pitching. Freshman left handed pitcher
Michael Amendola got the ball for Williams in his first collegiate start.
Knox got their bats going early by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. In an attempt to throw off the baserunner, Amendola balked to move him into scoring position. A base hit on the very next pitch allowed the runner to score. After a hit by pitch, the following batter roped a single to left to plate another. To cap off the first inning, the Prairie Fire pulled off a first and third trick play, allowing the base stealer to be tagged out in exchange for an additional run.Â
The Ephs were able to pick up their young pitcher, scoring three runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning. Senior catcher Cole Whitehouse, who would slot in at the designated hitter position, roped a triple into the gap to start the rally. James O'Connor followed suit with a single up the middle to plate him. Multiple base hits and free bases from the Ephs offense completed the three run frame.Â
On the other side of the ball, Amendola settled in nicely by facing the minimum in the following two innings, striking out two batters in the process. The southpaw would run into trouble in his fourth inning of work, allowing two more runs to score on a double in the gap. Amendola would finish his debut throwing 5 innings for the Ephs while recording 3 strikeouts.Â
Williams kept the offense going throughout the entire game, scoring 8 more runs while facing a new Knox pitcher to start every frame. This offensive showcase was highlighted by Cole Whitehouse who couldn't seem to miss the ball if he tried. Hitting two triples as well as doubles made Whitehouse a force to be reckoned with in this contest. Other notable players include Daniel Lynch (3-3), Henry Juan (2-5 2B) and Dave Mosrie (2-5 2B).Â
The Ephs bullpen smothered the Prairie Fire offense with funky sidewinder Bo Peponis making his second appearance of the season and flamethrower James Murray coming in to close the game.Â
Williams have their first off day of the season tomorrow and will take on Kalamazoo College on March 22nd at 1:15 PM.
