Ephs Start Strong at Early Bird Invite at The Track at New Balance in Boston

Boston, MA The Williams Women's Track & Field Team had a great season opener at the Early Bird Invite, held at The Track at New Balance in Boston on December 7, 2024. With the team split across two meets, most of the Ephs' field event athletes and long-distance runners participated in the Early Bird Invite, kicking off strong the 2024-2025 track season. During the meet, the Ephs put on strong performances, breaking personal records and hitting many qualifying marks for Division III New England Championships. 

The Ephs' strong performance began with first-year Lily Yampolsky's big win in the mile. Yampolsky finished with a stellar time of 5:00.71and secured her qualification for the Division III New Englands.

In the 3,000m, the Ephs showcased exceptional performances, with four athletes securing a spot at the Division III New England Championships. First-year Kate Tuttle led the group with a strong 2nd-place finish in 9:51.43, followed by Nora Johnson in 4th with a time of 10:08.06 . Jordan Liss-Riordan placed 9th, clocking in at 10:21.48 while Julia Brennan earned 11th place with a new personal record of 10:28.08. 

Similarly, the Ephs dominated the 5,000m race, claiming five top-10 finishes and qualifying all five athletes to Division III New Englands. Kate Swan secured 2nd place with a time of 17:25.35, closely followed by Morgan Eigel in 3rd with 17:35.25. Charlene Peng finished 5th in 17:40.93, Fiona Picone crossed the line 7th with a time of 17:49.00 and Hayley Ballard rounded out the group in 9th and achieved a new personal record of 17:57.13.

The Ephs field athletes competed across various events. Vivian Knoles represented Williams in the high jump, while Kelsey Tarby, Mireya King, and Knoles competed in the long jump. In the triple jump, Rafaela Delgado Carpio-Rivero and Mireya King both advanced to the finals and Mireya secured her spot at Division III New Englands with a 10.75m jump. In the pole vault, Jae Yu and Poppy Miller tied for 4th place, each clearing 3.20 meters.

The Ephs demonstrated their hard work and preparation throughout the fall training season with many athletes achieving personal bests and earning Division III qualifying marks. With a successful season opener behind them, the Ephs look forward to their next meet at the Ramapo Invite, held at the NYC Armory on January 17th, 2025.
