WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The recent cold, snowy and windy weather has set the stage for the perfect beginning to the Williams College Nordic skiing team's 2026 season.
The Ephs start the journey this weekend at the St. Lawrence Carnival, which will be combined with the U.S. National Championships this year, on Mount Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid, New York, as Williams will compete in the 10-kilometer classic Sunday and the skate sprint qualifier Tuesday.
"This will be a great chance for the entire team to experience extremely competitive racing," said head coach
Steve Monsulick. "These races will also serve as a part of qualifying for the Olympics in February."
The Ephs' roster features 14 returning student-athletes and five newcomers. The returners include captains
Francesca Kitch '26,
Janne Koch '26,
Luci Ludwig '26 and
Tzevi Schwartz '26, while

Ann Rightmire '27,
Cole Bothner '28,
Kiri May '28,
Quinn McDermott '28,

Ella Bullock '29,
Josh Frett '29,
Miles Miner '29 and
Will Mowry '29 to the family.
"The team has been training hard all fall, led by our four senior captains," said Monsulick. "Coming out of our training camp in Craftsbury, Vermont, I am really looking forward to getting this season going. We have excellent potential in all classes and I am feeling like there are going to be lots of opportunities for career-best results across the entire team. The incoming class has lots of national and international race experience in the junior ranks and should factor into out team scoring throughout the year."
After their season-opening carnival, the Ephs will take their talents to the Colby Carnival on Jan. 23-24 at Quarry Road in Waterville, Maine, and then will travel to the Oak Hill Outdoor Center in Hanover, New Hampshire, on Jan. 30-31 for the Dartmouth Carnival. The UVM Carnival takes place on Feb. 6-7 at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center in Craftsbury, Vermont, and then the Middlebury Carnival occurs at the Rikert Outdoor Center in Ripton, Vermont, on Feb. 20-21.
"Williams will also be hosting cross-country races as part of the winter carnival this year," said Monsulick. "The carnival will happen on Feb. 13-14 at Prospect Mountain in Woodford, Vermont. Saturday's race will be a relay and I would highly recommend all Nordic fans get out to Prospect to spectate the event."
