Brady Welsch '27 and
Jake McManus '28 of the Williams College men's ice hockey team were named semifinalists for the Silver Anniversary and 25th Joe Concannon award, as announced by Gridiron Club of New England President Tim Whelan Jr. Thursday.
This honor is presented annually to the best American-born NCAA Division II/III hockey player in New England. The recognition was established in 2001 shortly after the passing of Concannon, a longtime writer for The Boston Globe who had a great passion for the game of college hockey, while always advocating strongly for amateur athletics.
There were a total of 36 semifinalists for this year's award, with 10 coming from NESCAC schools and 22 institutions being represented overall. The honorees feature 27 forwards, six goaltenders and three defensemen.
Welsch recorded a hat trick during a 5-3 victory over Connecticut College on Nov. 21 at Lansing Chapman Rink in Williamstown, Massachusetts. He was named NESCAC Player of the Week on Nov. 24, as the Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, native has tallied nine goals, six assists and 15 points, while being a plus eight, in 13 games during the 2025-26 season. The nine goals are tied for the fourth most in the NESCAC rankings.
McManus leads the Ephs and ranks in a tie for third in the conference with with 15 assists, while his team-leading 23 points are the fifth most in the conference. He has posted six multi-point games this season, while also taking home the conference's Player of the Week honor on Dec. 8.
The Ephs compete at Middlebury Saturday with puck drop set for 2 p.m.
