CHANDLER, AZ. — Seniors Taylor Mikell and Zach Stone drove
in four runs apiece Monday as the Williams College baseball team
rolled to its seventh straight victory with a 17-2 rout of Thomas
College at Snedigar Park.
The Ephs banged out 21 hits en route to improving their record
to 7-5 overall. They play Thomas again Tuesday at 3 p.m.
Mikell was 4 for 6 with four RBI and Stone 3 for 5 with four RBI
to lead the Ephs. Robin Allemand, Al Mathews, Barrett Allison and
Chase Davenport all had two hits for Williams.
Sophomore Wilson Barr was the benefactor of all the offense,
throwing six solid innings and allowing six hits while walking two
and striking out five. Only one of the two runs he allowed was
earned. Tom Hester, Dan Marcet and Stone each tossed one inning of
scoreless relief.
The Ephs took a 1-0 lead in the first when lead-off hitter
Stephen Maier singled and stole second. With one out, Mathews
scored him with an RBI-single. Williams broke it open with a
seven-run fourth inning that made the score 8-0.
Pat Barren led off with a walk and Chad Brown eached on an
error. Mikell singled home Barren to make it 2-0. Stone followed by
roping a two-run double for a 4-0 edge. With one out, James Allison
plated Stone with a grounder to short.
Maier kept the inning going by reaching on an error. Allemand
singled him to third and stole second base. On the play, Maier
stole home. Mathews then lined an RBI-double. Barren scored him
with a single to cap the frame.
