Preview: Williams Women Go to Nationals 2021

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY—On Saturday the 20th, 32 teams will compete at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park for the 2021 DIII Women's Cross Country National Championship team title. 294 runners will be competing for the individual title.

Eight Williams Women are going to Kentucky. Sophomore Genna Girard, first-year Ella Ball, captain Abby Scott, senior Grace Dailey, first-year Charlotte Staudenmayer, junior Maddy Lawler, and senior-captain Emma Tapscott are the line-up for the race with sophomore Molly Fitzgibbons as the alternate. This line-up is not the same as the group that won Mideast Regionals last Saturday.

Headcoach Pete Farwell '73 comments on how "the team is healthier than last week" and that the "workout went very well yesterday for everyone." This is good news as last week, Ball was out sick for Regionals but is now ready to race. Staudenmayer raced while feeling under the weather last Saturday, and has also now recovered. Tapscott has had her injury improve.

When asked about this Saturday, Coach Farwell remarks that "the team has peaked well, feeling good, and looking for their best race of the season." The Women of Williams are no strangers to E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park and the course there. The last National Championship in 2019 also occurred in Louisville. There are two returners from the team that placed third there: Scott and Dailey.

The race will begin at noon on Saturday.
